Walk or Wheel To School 2024-2025

Protect the planet, reduce traffic around school, get some exercise, and HAVE FUN!

 

 WoW! is one of the students’ favorite events at BCS! The WoW! program holds a special place in our hearts, as it inspires more students to embrace alternative transportation methods like walking, biking, scooting, or skateboarding to and from school. By doing so collectively, we mitigate traffic congestion during drop-off and pick-up hours, allowing families to savor precious moments together. Studies have also demonstrated that students who walk to school arrive more attentive and primed for learning. We wholeheartedly encourage everyone to seize the opportunity our monthly WoW! day presents.

 

 

Similar to previous year, we will have two ways for students and parents to check in:

  1.  Check in on the WoW! table in the drop off area
  2. Check in online using this form: https://tinyurl.com/wow-bcs-24

Please mark the following dates on your calendar for the coming WoW! events.

WoW! days are planned on the first Thursday of each month (except October & May), starting at 7:45am (North Campus) and 8:00am (South Campus).

 

October 8 (Tue) - Donuts & Coffee on 1st WoW day
November 14 (Thu) - Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day and Walk or Wheel Day
December 5 (Thu)
Jan 9 (Thu) - Jan 2nd is Winter Break!
Feb 6 (Thu)
Mar 6 (Thu)
Apr 3 (Thu)
May 7 (Wed) - National Bike to School Day

 

What if I live too far? Here are "close by" options to park and then walk or bike:

  • North – church parking lot at 190 Jordan Ave. (0.3mi walk)
  • South - Heritage Oaks Park (corner of Portland and Miramonte), take Portland to Carmel Terrace and enter at the back of Blach (0.6mi walk).

 

WoW! occurs once a month, weather permitting and may be canceled for rain
 
It's also the perfect time to follow our BEARS Expectation - ACT SAFELY. 
 
**We have a critical responsibility with Walk or Wheel Days: School Traffic Safety**
Regrettably, each year witnesses increased injuries and fatalities stemming from vehicular accidents. The mounting traffic congestion during school drop-off and pick-up times poses an escalating threat to our children's safety. In response, the school, in collaboration with the Bullis Boosters Club, Los Altos Police Department, and Safe Routes to School, has embarked on a mission to heighten awareness about traffic safety among our students and parents, aiming to avert potential tragedies within our close-knit school community.
